How to Apply Your Hat Patch
Our hat patches come with a USA-made heat-activated adhesive backing, so applying one is quick with a heat press. Here is how to get a clean, permanent bond every time.
What you will need
- Your hat patch (adhesive backing already applied)
- A heat press, a dual-platen hat press works best, a single-platen press also works
- Your hat
Recommended press settings
| Press type | Temperature | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Dual-platen hat press (recommended) | 280°F top platen, 320°F bottom platen | 40 to 45 seconds |
| Single-platen press | 300°F | 50 to 60 seconds |
Step by step
- Pre-press the hat (optional). A quick few-second press warms the hat and removes moisture, which helps the bond.
- Position the patch where you want it and make sure it is sitting flat with full contact against the hat.
- Press using the settings above with firm, even pressure.
- Let it cool, then check the entire edge of the patch to confirm it is fully bonded before the hat is worn or sold.
Tips
- Every press, hat, and fabric is a little different. Start with the settings above and run a test on one patch when you can.
- Firm, even pressure and full contact matter as much as temperature. Curved and structured hats may need a little adjusting.
- If an edge is not fully bonded, press again for a few more seconds.
